ee429914865beb472145ee84e64fb1a1Chicago is back in the throws of The Polar Vortex. As I write this a snow squall has our apartment creaking and cracking enough to make one wonder if this isn’t some bizarre urban extension of The Three Little Pigs. If you happened to stop by this little blog back in early January, you may recall (not so tall) tales of frozen windows, flooding, loss of heat and water, an ceiling caving in the lobby. It was a wild ride over here at Park Place Towers. For Part Deux of the Vortex I’m hunkering down at home to ensure this place doesn’t come down like a pile of sticks.

As one could guess, this weekend was grippingly cold and windy yet again. And so, as has been the case every weekend this month, we spent most of it indoors – doing odd jobs around the apartment, cleaning house, starting new books, juicing all of the vegetables. As much as it has been a pain to be stuck indoors, it has been lovely to fall back into a simple weekend routine. Friday night dinner together followed by homemade cocktails courtesy of barkeep A. Pilates on Saturday and a long run on Sunday for her; meditation for him. French press-brewed coffee with cinnamon for both afterwards. The slower pace of this winter has truly allowed me to refresh after some taxing work weeks and I could not be more thankful for that.

Assuming (some of) you are stuck in the same indoor kid sort of situation (#cabinfever), here’s some bits and pieces of the internet that caught my eye as of late. Want more? Check out the Weekend Edition archives. Stay warm fellow Midwesterners! We’re getting closer to spring one below-zero day at a time.
